iPhones to detect cancer they cause 02/09/2011
FROM NEW AU SCIENTISTS have developed a new tool in the fight against skin cancer by creating an iPhone device that detects skin cancer. The ‘Handyscope’ which launched yesterday, plugs into the iPhone and acts as a “dermatascope” – a tool which doctors use when they are investigating skin cells for melanoma. Using a polarising light, the device can detect if a mole is cancerous, takes a photo of it and sends it off to a doctor for inspection. Users can even upload their photos to a second opinion service which allows melanoma specialists to consult on the diagnosis. Of course, the device comes at a pretty significant cost – the Handyscope is currently priced at £995 ($1600) – about 20 times more than the costs of a consultation with a melanoma specialist. FROM NATURAL NEWS Radiation scientists agree TSA naked body scanners could cause breast cancer and sperm mutations Learn more:http://www.naturalnews.com/030607_naked_body_scanners_radiation.html#ixzz1CdV1OPnD (NaturalNews) The news about the potential health dangers of the TSA's naked body scanners just keeps getting worse. An increasing number of doctors and scientists are going public with their warnings about the health implications of subjecting yourself to naked body scanners. These include Dr Russell Blaylock (see below) as well as several professors from the University of California who are experts in X-ray imaging. At the same time, some internet bloggers are insisting that the TSA's naked body scanners pose no health risks because air travelers are subjected to higher levels of radiation by simply enduring high-altitude flights where cosmic radiation isn't filtered out by the full thickness of the Earth's atmosphere. This comparison, however, is inaccurate: The TSA's body scanners focus radiation on the skin and organs near the skin whereas cosmic radiation during high-altitude flights is distributed across the entire mass of your body. Comparing the total radiation exposure across your entire body to machine-emitted radiation exposure that focuses its ionizing radiation primarily on your skin is like comparing apples and oranges. You'll see this explained further, below, in the words of these scientists. As Dr Russell Blaylock (www.BlaylockReport.com) recently reported: The growing outrage over the Transportation Security Administration's new policy of backscatter scanning of airline passengers and enhanced pat-downs brings to mind these wise words from President Ronald Reagan: The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help you. So, what is all the concern really about - will these radiation scanners increase your risk of cancer or other diseases? A group of scientists and professors from the University of California at San Francisco voiced their concern to Obama's science and technology adviser John Holdren in a well-stated letter back in April. "Our findings indicate that the long-expected mobile revolution in healthcare is set to happen. Both healthcare providers and consumers are embracing smartphones as a means to improving healthcare," said head researcher, Ralf-Gordon Jahns. The study was part of the mHealth Summit, which wrapped Wednesday and offered a picture on industry that's booming at home and abroad. Of the current health apps on the market, 43% are designed for health care professionals, indicating the future of mHealth has far-reaching personal and institutional potential. Bill Gates keynoted the conference and was clear about the future or mobile health. "Diagnosis of malaria and TB will likely be the first ones you can assign a number to and say without this mobile phone app these people would have died," Gates said. "In the diagnostics areas we're seeing some very good stuff come through." On the domestic front, Jeffrey Shuren, director of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, said, “We need to be moving towards open sourced, independent infrastructure where you have components of different manufacturers that can plug and play. FDA is looking to the development of those different types of standards to get the biggest bang for our buck.” READ MORE Don't believe the daily mail spin, they are trying to say that its a threat in that it promotes promiscuity and creates a false sense of protection. Bump that shit!!! Thats the kind of shit that can be taken care with, with a 10 cent pamphlet and You wont see any rich girls falling for this trap!!! Hmmmm.... THINK.FROM DAILY MAIL SHILLS Teenage girls are being bribed with high street shopping vouchers to receive a highly controversial vaccine. A health trust is promising them £45 in tokens for stores such as HMV, Argos and Debenhams if they agree to the cervical cancer jab, which protects against a sexually-transmitted virus that can cause tumours. Opponents say the vaccine - dubbed the 'promiscuity jab' - encourages girls to have sex earlier than they would. Nature cures cancer (see article below), and images of this complex balance bring the body back to homeostasis. Show them pictures of cities and slums and I imagine the Cancer will get more agitated. The cancer picks up on our physiological reaction to the images and remembers "oh yeah, hey man, everything is OK, I don't need to worry" every thing I need IS HERE. FROM THE TELEGRAPH Scientists at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, America, claimed that patients’ feelings can be lifted without them having to leave their beds. Looking at pictures of tranquil scenery is enough to help alleviate the suffering of excruciating cancer treatment, they discovered. Researchers analysed patients undergoing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy (BMAB), a painful form of cancer treatment in which marrow is extracted from the pelvic bone with a local anaesthetic. Some were treated in a standard hospital environment while others were exposed to the sights and sounds of outdoors – either the tranquillity of birds and waterfalls or the stress of cities and traffic. The nature scene often involved surrounding the patient in images of Victoria Falls in Zambia. The researchers measured the levels of pain felt and found that those subjected to the peacefulness of nature experienceed less pain. Levels of pain in a stressful urban setting were the same as they were under standard procedure, the Hopkins Pain Rating Instrument showed. The findings prove that it is not necessary just to distract a patient to alleviate pain but that the distraction must have a calming effect. It also gives hope to sufferers who have tried other techniques which have failed to reduce pain, such as hypnosis or sedation. Noah Lechtzin, who led the research, said: “I think there are certain elements of nature that are beneficial and others that could be frightening. Well they go off to kill innocent people for the rich or take some 'preemptive measure' to neutralize the threat, all the while devouring everything in their path to ensure total security in every aspect of their lives 'saving' everything in sight for some later date when they will decide to finally live. So... what do your cells do when they are afraid of the toxins and pollution accrued throughout your selfish lonely quest to be like your neighbors, they get afraid, and they react how you react. Cancer rates are a reflection of socioeconomic/ environmental injustice. The only cure for cancer is to cure oppression and fear of one another, and even if in a medical sense a cure was released, the system will have necessarily been destroyed, because the current one would never permit such a quick fix, but as I am starting to see... there is no quick fix to something caused by our ongoing activities, in fact to want a quick cure is what got us into the mess in the first place. Scientists suggest that cancer is purely man-made October 14, 2010 (PhysOrg.com) -- Cancer is a modern, man-made disease caused by environmental factors such as pollution and diet, a study by University of Manchester scientists has strongly suggested. The study of remains and literature from ancient Egypt and Greece and earlier periods – carried out at Manchester’s KNH Centre for Biomedical Egyptology and published in Nature Reviews Cancer – includes the first histological diagnosis of cancer in an Egyptian mummy. Finding only one case of the disease in the investigation of hundreds of Egyptian mummies, with few references to cancer in literary evidence, proves that cancer was extremely rare in antiquity. The disease rate has risen massively since the Industrial Revolution, in particular childhood cancer – proving that the rise is not simply due to people living longer. Professor Rosalie David, at the Faculty of Life Sciences, said: “In industrialised societies, cancer is second only to cardiovascular disease as a cause of death. But in ancient times, it was extremely rare. There is nothing in the natural environment that can cause cancer. So it has to be a man-made disease, down to pollution and changes to our diet and lifestyle.” She added: “The important thing about our study is that it gives a historical perspective to this disease. We can make very clear statements on the cancer rates in societies because we have a full overview. We have looked at millennia, not one hundred years, and have masses of data.” The data includes the first ever histological diagnosis of cancer in an Egyptian mummy by Professor Michael Zimmerman, a visiting Professor at the KNH Centre, who is based at the Villanova University in the US. He diagnosed rectal cancer in an unnamed mummy, an ‘ordinary’ person who had lived in the Dakhleh Oasis during the Ptolemaic period (200-400 CE). Professor Zimmerman said: “In an ancient society lacking surgical intervention, evidence of cancer should remain in all cases. The virtual absence of malignancies in mummies must be interpreted as indicating their rarity in antiquity, indicating that cancer causing factors are limited to societies affected by modern industrialization”. Merck Sued: HomeAgain® Pet Chip Implicated in Cancer New website, ChipMeNot.com, features details on cancer case and other adverse reactions Bulkin, the cat at the center of the Merck - HomeAgain lawsuit Pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. has been served with a lawsuit over claims its HomeAgain® pet microchip induced cancer in a cat. Animal rights attorney Steven Wise seeks "reasonable compensatory damages" for a malignant tumor "likely" induced by a HomeAgain® ID chip implanted in his client's cat, Bulkin. The complaint, "Andrea Rutherford v. Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. and Digital Angel, Inc." (case # 1052CV1147) was filed last week in Cambridge (MA) District Court. The complaint named implant maker Digital Angel Corporation as a co-defendant. "Based on the alarming number of microchip-linked cancers we're discovering, I predict this lawsuit will be just the tip of the iceberg," said Dr. Katherine Albrecht, a consumer advocate and expert on adverse reactions associated with implantable microchips. Bulkin's case is featured at www.ChipMeNot.com, a new website launched by Albrecht's consumer group CASPIAN to bring attention to the plight of animals who have developed cancer and other adverse reactions from ID microchips. Albrecht documents several of these cases in "Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990–2006," a peer-reviewed academic paper she presented at a June conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers devoted to concerns about implantable microchips. Albrecht's paper and a copy of the complaint are also posted at www.ChipMeNot.com. The site, co-developed with graduate intern Lidiya Prorochuk, spotlights a growing number of adverse reactions to microchips, including the chip-related cancer deaths of two dogs within the past year. The site also features a form where pet owners can report adverse microchip reactions, since there is currently no official registry in the US to collect such data. READ MORE Marijuana Cuts Lung Cancer Tumor Growth In Half, Study Shows ScienceDaily (Apr. 17, 2007) — The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies. They say this is the first set of experiments to show that the compound, Delta-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), inhibits EGF-induced growth and migration in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expressing non-small cell lung cancer cell lines. Lung cancers that over-express EGFR are usually highly aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy. THC that targets cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 is similar in function to endocannabinoids, which are cannabinoids that are naturally produced in the body and activate these receptors. The researchers suggest that THC or other designer agents that activate these receptors might be used in a targeted fashion to treat lung cancer. "The beauty of this study is that we are showing that a substance of abuse, if used prudently, may offer a new road to therapy against lung cancer," said Anju Preet, Ph.D., a researcher in the Division of Experimental Medicine. Acting through cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, endocannabinoids (as well as THC) are thought to play a role in variety of biological functions, including pain and anxiety control, and inflammation. Although a medical derivative of THC, known as Marinol, has been approved for use as an appetite stimulant for cancer patients, and a small number of U.S. states allow use of medical marijuana to treat the same side effect, few studies have shown that THC might have anti-tumor activity, Preet says. The only clinical trial testing THC as a treatment against cancer growth was a recently completed British pilot study in human glioblastoma. In the present study, the researchers first demonstrated that two different lung cancer cell lines as well as patient lung tumor samples express CB1 and CB2, and that non-toxic doses of THC inhibited growth and spread in the cell lines. "When the cells are pretreated with THC, they have less EGFR stimulated invasion as measured by various in-vitro assays," Preet said. READ MORE Cancer rates to double by 2030 06/01/2010
Cancer deaths to double by the year 2030U.N. report: 13 million around world will die each year, twice those in 2008 LONDON - Cancer will kill more than 13.2 million people a year by 2030, almost double the number who died from the disease in 2008, the United Nations' cancer research agency said on Tuesday. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) also said that almost 21.4 million new cases of the disease will be diagnosed annually in 2030. Launching a new database on global incidence of cancer in 2008, the latest year for which figures are available, the IARC said the burden of cancer was shifting from wealthier to poorer nations. Cancer is neither rare anywhere in the world, nor confined to high-resource countries," it said in a statement. In total, 7.6 million people died of cancer in 2008 and there were an estimated 12.7 million new cases diagnosed. READ MORE ![]() By Donna Bowater of Express.co.uk JUST half an hour a day on your mobile phone can increase the risk of brain cancer by a third, according to a landmark report. The largest study into the dangers, published in a scientific journal tomorrow, come as mobile phone usage in Britain continues to rocket, particularly among children. The £15million Interphone report, by the World Health Organisation, found those in the heaviest user category were in greater danger of developing malignant glioma tumours, which account for half of all brain tumours in the UK. But the report’s definition of heavy use is just 30 minutes a day and regular use was at least one call per week over a six-month period. No victims under 30 were interviewed, with the researchers admitting many young people use mobiles for an hour or more every day. They found that tumours were more common on the side of the head where the phone was used. Campaigners have warned the real risk may be much higher because the study did not look at other tumours including acoustic neuromas, which grow in the ears. ‘The real risk of tumours could be much higher’ Sarah Wright, spokeswoman for campaign group Mast Sanity, said: “They are only looking at two types of tumours. Other reports have come up with an average that doubled the risk and this Interphone study gives a 40 per cent increased risk. “Twenty to 30 years ago, brain tumours were virtually unknown but two surgeons in Australia say they have seen a huge increase.” She said evidence showed the number diagnosed was increasing by two per cent every year. The Interphone report, which has been largely funded by the mobile phone industry, was based on interviews in 13 countries over 10 years with 5,000 brain cancer victims or a friend or relative of those who had died or were too ill to be quizzed.
