Due to the immensity of deception in mainstream media, sometimes the obvious ones sneak through the door, until I notice them sitting bare assed in the living room on the new carpet eating cheetos. I am running on a few articles knowledge and 90% valiant speculation when I say that the 'conficker' worm is likely a gimmick introduced by some anti-virus communities in order to boost a dying market. The mainstream media attention the issue is getting is incriminating enough. But more pointedly in its slow dramatic progression, the uncertainty, and the unpredictability in its potential doomsday function so to arouse fear in the minds of insecure avatards abroad that this is a threat to their very physical existence!
The mere publicity of the virus has lead to the increase in anti-virus software sales. The worldwide anti-virus market is expected to grow from 3.1 billion to 4.5 billion in 2010, in spite of prior concerns that the market was shrinking, a concern which has been blanketed by the threat of 'conficker'. This article explains very succinctly who benefited from the Conficker hype. I don't doubt the authenticity of the virus itself, it is very real, but its the question of who benefits from the problem that is of central importance.
Microsoft has pledged 250, 000$ for any info leading to Confickers engineers arrest, thus immunizing them from any investigation, and likely using it as the basis to push forth some grand security initiative (i.e. less individual power, more centralized power in a PC's security function, not that it matters as the NSA is all up in this piece anyway!). Damn.
Among the other added perks were the elementary conspiracy theorems put forth around the web explaining it as an attempt by communist countries to destroy the United States... and apparently the rest of the world??? (as that's where its spread!!!). Ziovision has decorated the deception with concerns over "internet terrorism", and how April 1st could have been the end game for PC users. ... When the April fools hype didn't transpire and Conficker didn't make everyone's PC explode, media agencies and shill bloggers abroad were turned loose on the web to work to intensify the notion of a hellish digital worm that would infest their hard drive and have worm babies who would form a colony in there and sing sticky icky worm ballads.. Signaling that they should immediately download the latest anti-virus software to protect their children should this worm spontaneously decide to devour them whole...
Norton seems to have a solution... and don't worry the Conficker virus hasn't activated yet so you still have time to buy Norton before its too late!!!
