The APA recently published an article (summarized here) in one of its many sold out journals which appears at first glance to demonstrate the health benefits of video games, claiming they relieve "pain" and can help control diabetes (in spite of the fact that sitting on your ass and eating their shitty food is a contributing factor to this condition!!!). The study also found that video games do not predict aggressive behavior and that this tendency was mainly attributable to a persons personality type. Fair enough.
I actually don't doubt that last one a bit, even though I am sure if one wanted they could find some connection in some form at some point down the road. There is however a big deception going on here.
First off, lets examine the fundamental premise, or fear if you will. Intuitively and from a Freudian/ psychoanalytic perspective video games provide an outlet for aggression, they allow the individual to partake in all sorts of scenarios that in the real world they could not without legal recourse. Freud believes that civilization has repressed human beings, you cant scratch your ass in public and simply hump females at random (unless you were at that one party that one time), nor are we privy to the violence which brought us to this highpoint of civi-lies-zation. Through catharsis (greek word for 'purging' or cleansing) we rid ourselves of this pent up evolutionary lingerer. So in some ways video games may actually do some good, insofar as it doesnt simply keep these (now obsolete) behaviors alive!!! However it doesn't simply end there. When we examine the research in this area it typically asks "Do video games make people more aggressive". This is the fundamental inquiry, and the experiment is set up to test this hypothesis. Its no wonder that this recent study has shown no predictable relationship between aggression and video games, because it likely does make people less aggressive but aggression is NOT the real undesired byproduct. Rather, being DESENSITIZED (Which can play out in the bystander effect and within the diffusion of individual responsibility) to human suffering is. The question of whether it causes people to be aggressive is a academic red herring of sorts, another token bullshit fadulous dialectic intended to control the discourse. People presume that a study showing video games are not aggressive implies that its detriment begins and ends there, as if it all hangs on this immediate variable of aggression which in its own multitude of variations would be difficult to succinctly understand. Whats more some aggression is required when your getting fucked by rich evil pricks your whole life, its part and parcel of the feminization of the slaves, so we all just passively accept their violence, but I won't get into that right now.
What about aversive aggression (passivity)? What about being a lethargic asshole who doesn't give a fuck about anything real, but would allow their kid to die while they raise virtual children or play video games??
What are the effects of video games on altruistic behavior (helping those in need)? What are the effects of video games on our acceptance of human suffering not just in our own country but abroad? How can this (if shown to be significant) be exploited by the military industrial complex? By the fake economy? Etc? The US is blatantly using video games to recruit people into the army and have invested millions in the task. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how they will benefit from such research. They made a movie which predicted this whole train the masses with video games and send them off to kill people in other countries with robots ordeal back in the day, it was called Toys (1992). Instead people pump out shit like this...
I am not saying that video games are the only variable, a multitude of other things would be needed to take into consideration indeed (age, sex etc). Overall however I would predict that a person who was of low education and who played video games frequently would be less inclined to help a passer by in need. If and when that was shown to be significant we could extrapolate it to our global attitudes and find that indeed we have grown ridiculously apathetic to what is going on not just abroad but in our own countries!!! I am quite confident this would be the case. Instead we get nonsense like the woman in the video below (at around 2 minutes) who is talking about video games can save the planet!!! Her idea although cheery and peachy and colorful and all the rest, is a LOAD OF SHIT!!!
I am not against video games, or violent movies and what not, in fact I used to play them quite a bit when I was still an over-the -counter-cultural clone. However this is just one example of how academia has been absorbed by the interests of the ruling class (as in a few families and declining), to get us all hooked on XBOX live become fat and complacent useless assholes with no ambition, no passion for anything but a few pixels on a screen that we deceive ourselves into believing is real. Thats another byproduct of video games: Self-deception, we know its not real, yet we pretend it is (and less so with video/TV) you can imagine how this benefits the agenda of sinister rich cunts who want nothing more than for you to sit there in front of a screen and be happier than a pig in shit.
No longer can one get funding to examine any issue if it actually intends to research something that runs against the interest of the status quo. This is the real 'technopoly', and I believe that Neil Postman gave this term meaning prematurely. In fact before I even looked into his work that speaks of technopoly as "The cultural belief that any technological advancement is a good one" the word had intuitively come to me in the form of an oligopoly of technology, a self serving system which ensures that anything that won't yield profits is forgotten, ridiculed and laughed at, by high bro sell outs who have more investment in the lie than they do the truth.
