DARPA's Mad Science? By Dawn Lim   02/16/10 02:47 pm ET

Wired had a field day decrying Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's proposed project, BioDesign, as a "mad science" project to "rewrite the laws of evolution to the military's advantage, creating 'synthetic organisms' that can live forever -- or can be killed with the flick of a molecular switch."

If that sounded just a little alarming, here's the fine print of DARPA's fiscal 2011 budget:

BioDesign eliminates the randomness of natural evolutionary advancement primarily by advanced genetic engineering and molecular biology technologies to produce the intended biological effect. DARPA plans to "identify and initiate strategies that would enable a new generation of regenerative cells that could ultimately be programmed to live indefinitely until needed for an injury repair or therapeutic application."

The budget also says that researchers will work on "encoded locks to create 'tamper proof' DNA" and "create a synthetic organism 'self-destruct' option to be implemented upon nefarious removal of organism."

Popular Mechanics Claims Humanity Doomed to War

Popular mechanics reveals a disguised (but blatant?) pro-war article entitled “how warfare shaped evolution” ignorant to the fact that in our contemporary world a lack of scarcity has diminished the primitive need to war for resources; that its perhaps OK for us transcended the Darwinian principles of territoriality, and survival of the fattest now that these things are necessary… The article rather attempts to legitimate the pro-war, 9/11 fantasy supporting magazines political position that advocates war profiteering and law enforcement as a necessity, as evidenced in its special section of the magazine entitled “military and law enforcement”… NOTE: This is the same magazine that insisted 50 years ago we would have flying cars and be taking frequent trips to the moon…


It didn’t factor in the industrial complex (which has chosen planned obsolescence over undeterred cooperative scientific advancement ) of which it is apart, which has therefore compromised its own prediction! The article attempts to deeply ingrain the notion that warfare is natural, and necessary in our modern era, thereby minimizing any prospect of culturally transcending such a principle… Prepping masses of gullible establishment brown-nosers, who have been trained to associate news anchors with windows to truth, into a drawn out battle for resources to fill the pockets of the people who engineered the fake economy.
